A 4D3N Catholic Pilgrimage for 42 Malaysian Guests in Ho Chi Minh City, the Mekong Delta and Vung Tau

Four days and three nights may sound brief, but they gave our group of 42 Malaysian guests enough time to discover the many sides of Southern Vietnam, from the vibrant streets of Ho Chi Minh City and the peaceful waterways of the Mekong Delta to meaningful moments at Catholic landmarks in My Tho and Vung Tau.

As most members of the group were Catholic, Tan Trinh Travel designed the itinerary as a thoughtful combination of pilgrimage, cultural discovery and authentic local experiences.

From the warm airport welcome at Tan Son Nhat International Airport to the final farewell before their flight back to Penang, the journey was filled with laughter, friendship and unforgettable memories.

Day 1: Welcome to Ho Chi Minh City

Upon arrival at Tan Son Nhat International Airport, the group was welcomed by Tan Trinh Travel’s tour guide and driver. Our team assisted with their luggage before transferring everyone to the city centre.

Notre-Dame Cathedral of Saigon

The journey began at Notre-Dame Cathedral of Saigon, one of the city’s most recognised Catholic landmarks.

For the Malaysian Catholic group, this was more than a photo stop. Standing together in front of a historic cathedral created a meaningful sense of connection through their shared faith.

Saigon Central Post Office

Located next to the cathedral, Saigon Central Post Office impressed the group with its elegant architecture, spacious interior and historic details.

It was also a popular place for group photos, souvenir shopping and experiencing the lively atmosphere of central Ho Chi Minh City.

War Remnants Museum

At the War Remnants Museum, the group learned more about Vietnam’s modern history through photographs, documents and historical exhibits.

After the excitement of the morning, the museum offered a quieter and more reflective experience. Many guests listened carefully to the tour guide and gained a deeper understanding of the lasting impact of war.

The first day ended with dinner at a local restaurant and a relaxing evening at the hotel before the group’s Mekong Delta adventure.

Day 2: My Tho Cathedral and Mekong Delta Experiences

After breakfast, the group travelled to My Tho, where their first stop was My Tho Cathedral.

The guests took group photos, admired the church’s architecture and spent time in prayer before continuing their journey through the Mekong Delta.

After leaving the cathedral, the group began exploring the Mekong River and Ben Tre. This day also produced some of the happiest and most natural moments in the trip video.

Honey Tea, Beehives and Local Wildlife

The guests enjoyed tasting refreshing honey calamansi tea and learning how local families produce honey. Several members eagerly held a honeycomb and observed the bees at close range.

Some adventurous guests also tried holding a python under the supervision of local staff. Their nervous expressions, laughter and encouragement from the group created one of the most memorable moments of the journey.

Coconut Candy, Traditional Music and Tropical Fruit

At a local coconut candy workshop, the group watched how one of Ben Tre’s most famous specialities is prepared, cooked, cut and packaged.

They also enjoyed tropical fruit while listening to Southern Vietnamese traditional music, known locally as đờn ca tài tử.

The experience offered a closer look at the culture, hospitality and daily life of local communities in the Mekong Delta.

Sampan Ride Through the Coconut Canals

One of the group’s favourite activities was a sampan ride along the narrow canals of Ben Tre.

The small boats moved slowly beneath rows of water coconut palms, creating a peaceful contrast to the lively streets of Ho Chi Minh City. Surrounded by greenery and calm waterways, the guests experienced the gentle rhythm of rural life in Southern Vietnam.

Day 3: Catholic Pilgrimage and Sightseeing in Vung Tau

On the third day, the group travelled to Vung Tau, a well-known coastal city located approximately two hours from Ho Chi Minh City.

Song Vinh Church

As part of the group’s Catholic pilgrimage, they visited Song Vinh Church, an impressive religious landmark known for its striking architecture and spacious grounds.

The church provided a beautiful setting for group photos while also giving the guests an opportunity to reflect on their faith and the bonds within their community.

Christ the King Statue in Vung Tau

Standing on Small Mountain and overlooking the sea, the Christ the King Statue is one of Vung Tau’s most important religious landmarks.

For the 42 Malaysian guests, gathering beneath the statue was a deeply meaningful moment. Some spent time in prayer, while others captured photographs with family members and friends.

Surrounded by the sea breeze and the open landscape, the group was able to slow down, step away from the busy itinerary and enjoy a quiet moment of personal reflection.

Tam Thang Tower and Vung Tau’s Coastal Scenery

The group also visited Tam Thang Tower, a modern check-in attraction near the Vung Tau coastline.

After a full day of pilgrimage and sightseeing, the guests enjoyed dinner together, shared stories and raised their glasses to celebrate another memorable day and the friendships strengthened throughout the journey.

Day 4: Farewell at Tan Son Nhat International Airport

After breakfast and hotel check-out, the Tan Trinh Travel team transferred the group to Tan Son Nhat International Airport for their flight back to Kota Kinabalu.

While the airport welcome video was filled with excitement, the farewell carried a different emotion. The smiles, waves and words of thanks before departure showed how much the journey had meant to the group.

They were found in the laughter while tasting honey tea, the excitement of holding a python, the peaceful sampan ride beneath the coconut palms, the quiet prayers beneath the Christ the King Statue and the final waves goodbye at the airport.
